Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, Amaan Ali Bangash and Ayaan Ali Bangash Collaborate with Grammy Winner Sharon Isbin

Legendary Sarod maestro Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, his sons Amaan Ali Bangash and Ayaan Ali Bangash have collaborated with multiple Grammy-winning classical guitarist Sharon Isbin for an album titled Strings for Peace. The album is slated for release May 22 on the ZOHO label (ZM 202004), CDs and digital copies can be pre-ordered now from Amazon and other retailers.

Strings for Peace is an amalgamation of classics. One will get to witness the magical combination of sarod and classical guitar in an eclectic east-west fusion. Ustad Amjad Ali Khan and Sharon, who have known each other for over a decade, have contemplated a collaboration for years which has now come to fruition through Strings for Peace. The album’s four tracks cover a wide range of expression, lyricism, color and virtuosity. The ragas composed by Amjad Ali Khan receive their world premiere in settings for guitar and sarod: By The Moon-Behag, Love Avalanche-Mishra Bhairav, Romancing Earth-Pilu, and Sacred Evening-Yaman.

On the successful completion of Strings for Peace and the release of the album, Amjad Ali Khan said ”Each of the artists brings the spirit of sharing the great unique treasures of their own artistic traditions, as well as finding common ground in ragas and medieval modes. The idea is to achieve a cross-fertilization at both the cellular and cosmic levels of two classical music traditions, which are often held to be radically different.”

Speaking about the collaboration, Amaan Ali Bangash said, “We feel honoured to collaborate with Sharon who is so creative, artistic and enthusiastic. We are sure when one hears the album, the intricacy of every beat and rhythm can be felt and one will be transported to a different consciousness. I have always felt that this collaboration is about letting go of what we are best at and more about getting the best out of the other person.”

Ayaan Ali Bangash added “Strings for Peace, I believe is extremely relevant. Especially in the wake of a pandemic. We have known Sharon for a decade, and began to really work together only last year. It is difficult to create fusion as it is a marriage of different cultures and it takes a lot of time for the perfect harmony. When we started out, little did we know that this creation will come to fruition at a time when humanity will need to consider meditation and contemplation more than ever.”

Sharon has had a longstanding relationship with Transcendental Meditation, which she has practiced since her teens and a deep interest in the classical music of India. Her collaboration with Ustaad Amjad Ali Khan and Amaan- Ayaan is a perfect harmony of interest and expertise which makes the quartet stand out with transcended notes. The combination of Sarod and classical guitar is not commonplace, yet the musical marvels have effortlessly and  effectively blended a chromatic instrument, Guitar to the microtonal elaborations of Sarod. Both the instruments not only complement each other but strive to create a new articulation of fusion.

Sharon Isbin said, “It took a long time to get the right partners to realize this unique vision on the guitar. Our instruments have so many interesting similarities and differences. Combining the sarod and guitar results in an extraordinary blend. It’s a pleasure and inspiration to perform with the finest, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan and his sons Amaan Ali Bangash and Ayaan Ali Bangash. Strings for Peace is a beautiful compilation of music that successfully interweaves the rhythms of sarod and guitar. Listeners will experience a remarkable spiritual and emotional journey.”

The recording will be released May 22, CDs and digital copies be pre-ordered now from Amazon and other retailers.

I am happy that Crazy Lagdi is getting so popular : Swaroop Khan

Singer from Rajasthan, Swaroop Khan, who also contested on one of the seasons of Indian Idol, is literally going places. After his PK song, Tharki Chokro became one of the chartbusters, the singer has recently sung a song Crazy Lagdi for Nawazuddin Siddiqui in Motichoor Chaknachoor, the song is already getting popular with viewers.  The song shows Nawazuddin trying his best to woo his neighbor Athiya Shetty and their unusual but fun chemistry will leave you in splits. Nawazuddin plays the character of an aging man in his forties who is desperate to marry a girl. He hooks on to his neighbor played by Athiya and gives his best to woo the girl into marriage. The song is sung by Swaroop Khan and the music is composed by Amjad Nadeem Aamir and the lyrics penned by Kumaar. This will be the first time Nawazuddin will be seen in a romantic comedy. The wedding-comedy was shot entirely in Bhopal and got its title from the fact that motichoor laddoos are served at weddings.

The song also gives a glimpse of some scenes from the film including the one where Pushpinder is seen following the leading lady while she is jogging, exercising, going by a rickshaw or at any possible place he could. The actor tries to woo Annie who repeatedly rejects all of Pushpinder’s ways and tactics until the two are seen wearing garlands at the end.

Sharing the song on Twitter, Nawazuddin Siddiqui hilariously captioned it saying, “It seems that you have to climb the ladder and speak in your ears…”

Swaroop is a versatile singer who has many popular songs to his credit. Ghoomar (Padmaavat), Mehndi (Dhanak), Bahut Hua Sanman (Mukkabaaz) are all interesting songs sung by the singer. He says, “I am happy that I am getting to sing different types of songs and if I sang a Tharki Chokro now I am singing Crazy Lagdi. It gives me a range that enables me to connect with viewers and get good work further.”

Out now: T-Series’ Punjabi folk recreation ‘Nai Jaana’!

She has been singing for more than a decade and her voice has been ruling the chartbusters non-stop. Tulsi Kumar’s name has been consistent with success and versatility and her ardent fans always want to hear more from the accomplished singer.

With her next offering, Nai Jaana, high on Punjabi lyrics penned by Nirmaan, with an element of fun and masti, Tulsi is set to mesmerise music buffs and her fans yet again with Sachet Tandon lending support on the male vocals.

Recreated by Tanishk Bagchi, Nai Jaana showcases a cute chemistry between the three talented actors:  TikTok sensations — Awez Darbar and Anmol Bhatia — and former model turned actor Musskan Sethi. Shot with full traditional, Punjabi pomp and splendor, the video is directed by Sahil Sangha.

Says Tulsi Kumar, “Nai Jaana is a beautiful Punjabi folk. We have tweaked it to an extent but the entire essence of the song remains intact. The song has a beautiful story revolving around a boy and a girl as she tries to convince him not to leave her and go because she loves him. It’s very beautifully shot and there’s lot of masti in the lyrics. Nai Jaana has got a very young, fun and spunky feel to it.”

Former model-turned-actress Musskan Sethi says, “I loved the original folk version, which is why I decided to be part of this reprised version of Nai Jaana. Sahil sir has directed it really well. Right from the costume to the backdrop to the lyrics and composition, the song has come out really well. It’s an old song getting refurbished in Tulsi Kumar’s voice. I was very excited since the time I heard the track. It was really nice to work with Awez also.”

Anmol Bhatia says, “This is my first song and the most challenging task was to dance since I am not someone who likes to dance. So I took it up as a challenge and rehearsed for 10 hours in a day. I had a whale of a time shooting for the song. I hope the audience will enjoy it. I’ve known Awez for some time but have worked with Musskan for the first time but we all synchronised well in terms of choreography.”

Awez Darbar adds, “I have a great working relationship with T-Series. The song is sung by Tulsi Kumar with whom I’ve worked with in one of our most popular and viral videos — Saki Saki — for my YouTube channel.  It fetched over 13 million views.  I loved the whole idea of Nai Jaana and immediately agreed to be part of it. The song has got a good hook step. I really enjoyed dancing to it.”
