Being an outsider, coming from Delhi and being part of the industry for 7 years seems amazing. I remember the first day very well. Entering the sets, meeting people, actors, I was excited, nervous and didn’t know what will happen. I also perceive that life is full of surprises. I guess giving the first shot is also a big thing. But for me, every shot is the first shot and I give it with the same enthusiasm and energy. I have always experimented with myself and I always tried to give my best to my shows,” he says.

Talking about his journey, he says, “My first show was Surveen Guggal -Topper of the year. I was contacted through Facebook by the makers of the show. It was funny. At that time, I was modeling in Delhi. I found it fake as you don’t think you will be contacted for a show on Facebook. Then I came to Mumbai where several know actors were there for the audition. By God’s grace, I got the show and since then there has been no looking back. I am lucky that I have good people around me; good actors, good makers and many others who have guided me throughout.” “Every day cannot be the same and life is full of ups and downs. But I have a lot of people with me and a lot of love for me which kept me motivated,” he says.

The actor’s current show Internet Wala Love has also completed 100 episodes. “It seems really nice to complete 100 episodes. I have been part of the show since the show was building and the story was being written. I have seen this project growing as a baby. It’s really very special for me and this is a show which was like an experiment as we have an introduced a youth show on Colors. So, it was challenging and it had the efforts of the whole team. Tenali Rama makes Krishna Bharadwaj ‘King of expressions’

Actor Krishna Bharadwaj is soaring high with the success of his ongoing show Tenali Rama. What has been a career-changing choice for him, Krishna talks about how he has become a favorite in every household.

“This role has done wonders for me. The kind of appreciation I get, the kind of love and respect I get from the audience in general and not only kids but elder citizens too is really amazing. Long back I heard that to be a hit star one must make sure that the kids love you because if they do they make sure their family watches and loves you too. Kids totally love my character and they think I am their age. They come and say to me ‘Rama play with us’,” shares Krishna.

The actor, who has been part of Gujarati film ‘Chal Mann Jeetva Jaiye’ and TV shows such as RK Laxman Ki Duniya and Jasuben Jayantilaal Joshi Ki Joint Family, also has received multiple compliments after playing the clever Brahmin Tenali.

“The compliments I get for Tenali Rama are like ‘Krishna is the king of expressions’.  The kind of faces I make, I play the character in a way that people love to see. I have always got good appreciation for my acting skills. Also, I believe that male actors have hardly anything to do on television because it is a female-oriented visual medium. In a way, I feel very lucky and fortunate enough to get a role that is totally based on me and I keep getting compliments for my character,” he says.

Journey for Krishna was not easy before bagging this show. “I was out of work before Tenali Rama for four years. I had just done the Gujarati film and the plays. There was no constant work, no financial stability so this prompted me to take up Tenali Rama. Beggars can’t be choosers and I am really fortunate that this show came my way because it has been a huge hit. I am glad I took up the show,” shares the actor, whose show will complete 400 episodes on January 14th.

Pallavi Joshi scores a tribal rendition of Saare Jahan se Achcha for her show Bharat Ki Baat

Pallavi Joshi and Vivek Agnihotri get a tribal rendition of Saare Jahan Se Achcha Hindustan Humara, recording the song in a remote location in Shillong, while shooting for their brand new television show, Bharat Ki Baat. To celebrate Republic Day the duo launched the song on their NGO, I Am Buddha’s you tube channel.

Anchored by Pallavi Joshi and directed by Vivek Agnihotri, the show is a breath of fresh air in a divided world with partisan views. It follows a narrative that breaks down the stereotypes and usual content format on Indian television by focusing on positivity and all things great that this large democracy has to offer.

While shooting for an episode on women empowerment at a remote location in Shillong, they tracked down some melodious music emerging from close by. The sound took them to a group of tribal folks who were playing unidentified bamboo instruments which produced a rare and raw sound quality that left the entire unit awestruck and pat came the idea to create a piece that resonated with the show.

Talking about the piece Pallavi Joshi said, “What better song than Saare Jaahan Se Achcha on such fresh notes? This is the real India and we city dwellers have so little idea about the treasure trove that lies within our country. Somebody from the unit heard this sound from a distance. We followed the sound trail and much to our delight we found a group of local people playing away. Vivek and I had a eureka moment and we knew that we had to make their craft known to the rest of the country”.

The song was written out in the local language and the crew found an interpreter to help the locals learn the song & explain its meaning. It was then taught to them by a special team that was flown down from Mumbai. The highlight of the song is the instruments that are used. These are all handmade bamboo instruments- 3 stringed instruments and 3 units of percussion were used to create this immortal track. Sitar, Guitar and Violin look alike instruments were used yet the sound is very different from their popular counterpart. For percussion one instrument that was used resembles Djembe yet sounds like conga.

“I was thoroughly impressed by the freshness of the sound. This art form needs preservation and must not be lost in oblivion. It’s our loss if we don’t cherish the richness that our country has to offer. The most wonderful experience while shooting in Shillong was to chance up these skilled musicians and what is even better was their enthusiasm to learn Saare Jahan Se Achcha, especially when they understood the meaning of the song. It was such a humbling experience that people who have so little in life are so much more thankful and truly believe in the greatness of this country while many of us who are far more entitled often overlook”, said Vivek Agnihotri.

Talking about the show, Director, Vivek Agnohotri added, “If you closely observe the nature of content on television be it news, fiction or reality shows they all focus on negative emotions, fear psychosis, conflicts, catastrophes and calamities. People are constantly at each other’s throats. We do very little to think positive or spread positivity. Pallavi and I had decided to break away from the stereotype, really take a fresh stance and that is seed of thought behind Bharat Ki Baat”.

The 26 part series delves into topics that vary from culture, history, landscapes, tourism, technology delving deep into India’s glorious past, the thriving present and an upwardly mobile growth curve as its future. Each episode has a central theme with proof points collected from the length and breadth of the country.
