The leading theatre production company Felicity Theatre staged the extraordinary entertainer, Jab we Separated, Written and Directed by film, television and theatre stalwart, Rakesh Bedi. With a power packed star cast that included the highly acclaimed film and television actress Shweta Tiwari, renowned theatre personality Rahul Bhuchar and the multi-faceted actor Rakesh Bedi himself.  The play depicted the mindset of modern-day couples whose lives are woven in the fragile thread of mistrust. It was a reflection of a contemporary society that when confronted with infidelity or regular nagging, young couples resort to the only shortcut available, divorce! This gut wrenching drama was staged at NCPA, Nariman Point.

Spotted in the packed gathering enjoying the play were film and theatre veterans like Salish Shah, Anent Mahadevan and Mukesh Khanna. Shailesh Lodha also arrived well in time and was in great spirits. Teejay Sidhu was overheard discussing her husband Karnaveer Bohra’s performance in the ongoing television reality show, Big Boss. Anup Jalota also spent quality time watching the play.

Rakesh Bedi, Director “Jab we separated,” stated, Divorce today is one of the most burning social issues in our society. Jab we separated explores discord in matrimony and how young couples today have lost faith in the concept of love, compassion, and forgiveness. The court gives the warring couples six months to reconcile, But do they really work on it? In this play, we try to find answers to such questions.

Rahul Bhuchar, Producer and MD, Felicity Theatre added “Producing Jab We Separated and working with stalwarts like Rakesh Bedi and Shweta Tiwari was extremely enriching. This play raises many pertinent questions and will keep the discerning audiences completely engaged during this powerful performance”.

Jab we separated is the narrative of Sanjay Sahni (Rahul Bhuchar) and Priya Maheshwari Sahni (Shweta Tiwari) who are living in a flat in Mumbai and have filed for divorce. Priya feels her husband is cheating on her, while Sanjay feels Priya does not give him enough space and nags too much. The court has given them a time frame of 6 months to reconcile if possible. But sadly in this scenario, the couple desperately waits for these 6 months to get over and then subsequently get over with each other. The play raises a very compelling question-Is divorce the only answer?

Jab we Separated also peeps into the solitary life of senior citizens like Priya’s immediate neighbor Monty Mitha (Rakesh Bedi), Who is constantly seeking company as he has no one to talk to. He begs people for time and attention but in the process becomes irritating to the core. Monty Mitha surely becomes an eyesore for Sanjay too.

The couple also has an adolescent daughter Megha, who is being tossed like a soft toy between two of them. Thanks to the precarious situation between her parents, Megha has learned to take emotional and financial advantage of both of them, though failing in her studies in this process.

Jab we separated raised pertinent questions and coaxed the audience for answers. This is one blockbuster entertainer that you can’t afford to miss as this complex story of love, marriage and separation keeps you gripped to your seat all through the riveting performance.
